Filing Prior Year Tax Returns

Washington, DC, Maryland and Florida Tax Return Attorney & CPA

As part of her practice Ms. Tanenberg often works with people who are in trouble with the IRS for having unfiled tax returns from previous years. If you do not file and do not respond to the IRS when they contact you, the IRS will file for you based only on your income but will not generally account for any deductions to which you may be entitled. The amount of tax due will usually be substantially inflated from what may actually be owed. Please contact Ms. Tanenberg for more information or to schedule a free initial phone consultation.

Filing Tax Returns from Prior Years

If the IRS is investigating you for unfiled tax returns, you may eventually be facing a lien, levy or wage garnishment. Even if the IRS has not yet sent notice of these procedures, taking immediate action will be beneficial. Often clients have filed a tax return but they left out income, and that flagged an IRS audit. any people come to Ms. Tanenberg because they know their past returns are questionable, and they have been carrying around the fear that they could be audited or investigated.

Ms. Tanenberg takes immediate action to address these matters for her clients. Most of her clients are so scared about the IRS that they do not do anything. She interviews the client and the calls the IRS promptly to determine the facts of the situation. From there, she then develops a strategy on how to proceed. She can prepare her clients' unfiled or amended tax returns. When they need to amend their tax returns, Ms. Tanenberg will pull together whenever documentation is needed. If her client does not have the original tax returns or all documents, she will work with them to find a creative avenue for securing the needed documentation.

She will work to achieve every possible legal benefit to which her clients are entitled: She will negotiate with the IRS to stop further enforcement, reduce penalties and interest, establish a favorable settlement, and/or develop a payment plan.

Ms. Tanenberg's hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with evening and Sunday meeting times available by request.
