Wage Garnishments, Levies, & Tax Liens
People who receive an IRS notice that their wages are being garnished, that a tax lien will be or has been filed, or that the IRS has levied their bank account are often unsure of what to do. They may not have received, read or understood the IRS notices.
As a tax lawyer and CPA, the first job Ellyn Tanenberg does is to gain a perspective on what is really going on. The reason for the tax lien, levy, or garnishment is generally due to unfiled tax returns or unpaid taxes. Ellyn Tanenberg works to clear up the IRS dispute or audit and negotiates with the IRS to see if there are opportunities to prevent them from taking further action.
Ms. Tanenberg works to reduce taxes, interest and penalties that the IRS claims are due. If the client owes money and is unable to pay, Ms. Tanenberg can negotiate with the IRS for an offer in compromise to reduce taxes, interest and penalties. Alternatively, she can also work with the IRS to set up an installment agreement so that clients can pay over time. She can also negotiate with the IRS if the client is experiencing aggressive collection actions which results in hardship.
Ms. Tanenberg's hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with evening and Sunday meeting times available by request.
