Offers in Compromise and Other Favorable Settlements

Washington, DC, Maryland and Florida IRS and State
Tax Settlement Attorney

When the IRS notifies taxpayers about an audit or other tax issue, these individuals may feel too embarrassed to seek advice. These individuals may be facing serious consequences, including tax liens, levy of bank accounts or other property, or wage garnishment. It is important to remember that while this can be a stressful and fearful time, doing nothing often only makes matters worse. Meeting with a professional is the first step in taking control of the situation. Ms. Tanenberg works with clients to help them move forward, providing counsel on how to resolve IRS disputes. For more information or to schedule a free initial phone consultation please call Ms. Tanenberg's law office.

After underlying tax issues are resolved, there may be taxes owed. The payment of that balance can be structured in favorable ways, including offers in compromise or other payment plans.

Offers in Compromise

An offer in compromise is an IRS tax settlement of the debt for less than the amount owed. Although there is no guarantee that the IRS will grant an offer in compromise, there are special circumstances where the IRS may agree to these terms. Offers in compromise are a very favorable way to resolve a tax debt.

Tax Settlements and Payment Plans

The IRS is often seeking an amount that is higher than what is actually owed. When Ms. Tanenberg files previously unfiled returns or amended returns for her clients, the amount owed is often reduced significantly. If her clients are unable to pay the amount owed, she helps her clients negotiate a settlement or payment plan. She explains to clients their options for paying the settlement amount, including structuring a loan from their retirement savings, a home-equity loan, a bank loan, or even credit card payments to pay back money owed after possible reductions are made.

Ms. Tanenberg's hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with evening and Sunday meeting times available by request.
